The collegiate church is three hundred years old, with its unfinished bell tower and splendid stained glass windows.

Construction of the collegiate church was completed in the 15th century, after 300 years of work! The imposing edifice features a Southern Gothic style, highlighting the bell tower-porch that opens onto the town's central square. The ecclesiastical porch and square plan lined with arcades make the Place Notre-Dame a particularly welcoming and reassuring focal point of the town. The curious will notice one "little" detail: the collegiate church's bell tower was never actually completed! Not to be missed: the stained-glass windows!

Prendre de la hauteur sur la ville en montant jusqu'au clocher offre une belle perspective à 360°. On peut alors observer les toits de la ville et notamment celui de la chapelle des Pénitents Noirs que l'on ne voit du bas de l'édifice.

La Collégiale est l'un des trois monuments principaux à visiter à Villefranche de Rouergue (avec la chapelle des Pénitents Noirs et la Chartreuse). D'une taille respectable, cet édifice a un clocher-porche massif mais très original car il s'appuie sur la place Notre-Dame (place centrale de la bastide qui accueille le marché) et qui permet d'avoir, en haut de sa tour, une très belle vue sur les toits de la ville et sur les collines environnantes. Par ailleurs, il renferme un très bel orgue restauré, ainsi qu'un carillon qui l'a été récemment, et qui est l'un des plus beaux du sud-ouest (sonneries régulières et visites possibles en saison touristique et à quelques occasions durant l'année).
