This Carthusian monastery was intended to accommodate a community of monks respecting an iron discipline
The Chartreuse Saint-Sauveur was built from 1452, a little away from the city, on the other side on the south bank of the Aveyron. Built according to the last wishes of Vézian Valette, a rich merchant of the city, it was intended to accommodate a community of monks respecting an iron discipline: isolation, contemplative life and absolute silence! You can visit the large cloister of the Charterhouse, one of the largest in France, which also has a small cloister richly carved in the flamboyant Gothic style.
