The Pierre Soulages Museum is deeply moved to have learned of the death of the artist at the age of 102. An immense figure of modern and post-war contemporary art, he was known for his walnut stain paintings and his Outrenoirs, large paintings covered with flat blacks that play with light. It is also him who, between 1986 and 1994, designed the stained glass windows of the abbey church of Sainte-Foye in Conques. Born in Rodez in 1919, he and his wife donated more than 250 works to his hometown, allowing it to inaugurate in 2014 the Soulages Museum, which now holds the most complete collection devoted to the artist. The place offers a nice panorama of his work, from his beginnings to his most recent creations, and also hosts temporary exhibitions. More information on the website of the Pierre Soulages museum
