A castle in eagle's nest at the confluence of the Ariège and the Arget which stands out from the mountainous piedmont. A great moment of history.

Not to be missed! The large, interactive museum of the Counts of Foix offers a total immersion in time and history, combining heritage and new technologies. This castle, at the confluence of the Arget and Ariège rivers, seems to hang in the clouds rather than rest on solid ground. This location has earned it a great deal of jealousy and, above all, formidable sieges. The three towers that stand out with authority against the Fuxen sky belong to different eras. Temporary exhibition to discover this year: Heroes & Heroines!

Perfect for stepping into a previous time in history and experiencing what life might have been like back when the castle was in its prime. It’s in amazing condition with different stalls and people explaining weapons, blacksmithing, stonework, and other interesting ideas. The demonstrations are all in French but you can ask questions in English if you want to further expand your knowledge. There’s a museum connected as well but we didn’t have time to explore that section. Give yourself ample time if you want to explore both the museum and the castle itself. A great place to bring kids or even as an adult if you enjoy history and medieval times. ????

Museum is interactive, nice for kids. Castle itself is just a bunch of stones without much decoration nor information. There are some people dressed up in medieval clothing though explaining a few things, which is nice.

It was an unplanned visit to this Chateau. We didn’t regret it at all. Entrance fee is quite cheap for what it offers. Love the amazing view from the castle once we’re up there ❤️
