SAINT-WALFRIED CHURCH
Church administered by the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Tholey in Sarreguemines
Saint-Walfrid church belongs to the parish of Welferding, whose origins date back to 1221. It was the mother church of several villages, before becoming part of Sarreguemines. Until 1789, it was administered by the Benedictine monks of Tholey Abbey. In the 19th century, an Empire-style facade was added. It contains various 15th-century remains. Its name refers to Archbishop Walfried of York, England, who stopped off at the court of Metz to visit his friend Dagobert II, King of Austrasia.
