Discovery of an underground city equipped to support 173 men in Rohrbach-lès-Bitche.
The Maginot infantry structure was the guardian of the Rohrbach plateau. Its three surface blocks, two of which were used for fighting, are all open to visitors. At a depth of 25 m, you will discover a real underground city equipped to provide for 173 men. The tour takes you through the barracks, the ammunition bunkers and up to the combat block, then continues with the power plant, the dormitories, the barracks and the kitchens... Outside, the footpath links the entrance and combat blocks. A very interesting and instructive visit.

Opening time and information on LE FORT CASSO
Open all year round. Except Christmas and New Year's Day. Guided tour at 3pm from Monday to Friday from June to October; additional tour at 10am from June to August included; guided tour at 3pm on Saturdays from March to October; visit on Sundays and holidays at 3pm all year round and at 4pm in addition from June to August. Free for children under 5 years old. Adult : 7 €. Children (from 5 to 14 years old) : 3 €. Reduced rate 6 € (Pass Lorraine, Group). Guided tour (bring warm clothes: indoor temperature 13° all year round and walking shoes for the visit of the work. Duration of the visit: 2 hours).

Follow the guide and plunge 25 m underground to discover these ultra-modern facilities for the time: power plant, kitchen, barracks and telephone exchange are just some of the elements you will be able to see. The visit will continue with the discovery of a battle block and the setting in battery by the visitors of a 135 tons turret.

Notre guide, parfaitement bilingue, a su rendre cette exploration captivante et immersive, nous plongeant dans le quotidien des hommes qui ont vécu ici pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La visite souterraine, à une trentaine de mètres sous terre, m'a permis de comprendre la vie de ces soldats, chargés de protéger la France des incursions allemandes et absolument pas prêt à se rendre.
Le temps a filé tellement j'étais absorbé par les détails historiques et le fonctionnement du fort. Chaque recoin raconte une histoire, et j'ai appris énormément sur cette période cruciale de notre histoire. Je pourrais encore en parler longtemps tant c'était enrichissant !
Un grand merci à l'association pour cette visite inoubliable et pour leur engagement à préserver notre patrimoine historique !
