Museum presenting the history of coal mining, the evolution of its techniques and the particular life of the mining world

Located in an impressive environment, the museum brings back to life a site that is now historic, and which, in its heyday in the middle of the 20th century, employed nearly 5,000 miners. The aim of this fully cultural initiative is to make known the rich coal mining heritage of the region and to retrace its daily life. It presents the history of coal mining, the evolution of its techniques and the particular life of the mine world. The museum takes on the appearance of a huge open book that tells the story of coal and miners. The visitor discovers the strange and fascinating world of the mine, through several different poles: representation by a fluorescent model of the mining subsoil of the Wendel shaft and its surroundings, replicas of mining sites in flatworkers, semi-erecters and erecters. Then it will pass through an airlock, representing the famous miners' descent cage and simulating the descent into the mine. To finish, a film projection on the mine will be proposed. The visits are guided, on request, by retired and passionate former miners. The whole thing is fun, educational and fascinating! This space also offers the highlight of various exhibitions. You will also have the possibility to privatize the Wendel washhouse in order to organize an event that will take a special dimension in this incredible place. Finally, you will leave by passing by the store which has selected no less than 150 articles to mark your visit.
