The botanical garden is more than 4 hectares to visit, 2 greenhouses, ponds, animals and exoticism!

A veritable green lung in the city, the Jardin Botanique, formerly known as Parc Frescatelly, was purchased from the Baroness de l'Espée in 1866. It covers 4.4 hectares. As you enter, a majestic Ginkgo Biloba (which in autumn lays down a carpet of yellow leaves) greets you opposite the duck pond. The garden is home to around a hundred species, some of them rare and exotic, such as a sequoia, a California nutmeg tree, a liquidambar, a bald cypress, a caramel tree, banana trees and palms. The two 1,000 m² greenhouses (whose architecture evokes the innovations of the 19th-century Universal Exhibitions) house ponds with goldfish and a family of turtles, a large aviary and a collection of unusual plants (carnivores and epiphytes), flora not very common in our regions! You'll be surprised by the tropical warmth inside. Once outside, you can have fun in the scent garden recognizing fragrant plants: mint, thyme, fennel, marjoram... The regular, geometric layout of the rose garden, with its 80 varieties of roses, will delight you with their fragrance and beauty. And for the kids, head for the play area, where a thousand and one adventures await! If you're a nature lover, you'll be able to spot nuthatches and woodpeckers in the trees. And for a smart walk, join the Canal de Jouy on the way out to downtown Metz!
