THE CASTLE OF COURCELLES
Charles Joseph de Courcelles, Secretary to King Louis XV, gave his name to the castle when he was built in 1713. This historic monument of the eighteenth century is, like its park, a place of elegance and refinement. Located in the center of the city, Montigny-lès-Metz mayor buys it in 1949. Courcelles Castle is the only major civil construction that offers a lively history and architecture. The interior reveals elements of «roquaille» style: In 2002, with the support of the General Council of Moselle, the municipality launches in a wide restoration campaign with the support of the General Council of Moselle. The latter contributed to a certain development of the building and its environment, taking into account its new functions (cultural space of public reception). The spirit and character of the building have been respected in order to restore the original ambiance of the site. Renovation work was officially completed in 2005. The Europa-Courcelles space now opens its doors regularly to offer activities and artistic events (festival, exhibition, concert). But the place is also open to private receptions (party, wedding), making the rental of rooms possible. Finally, the bottom of the park offers a beautiful view of Mount Saint-Quentin.
