The Place de la République in Metz, a square full of history, hosts many events that invite to leisure.
Formerly called Place Royale, it was erected in 1802. From the 19th century, there are only buildings lining the area: the Ney barracks (1835), the Arsenal (at the time of Napoleon III), the Food Store (1560) which became La Citadelle... Throughout its history, it has been an important place of life, hosting political and military gatherings as well as entertainment. This square opens onto the Esplanade gardens where ponds and flowerbeds extend to the water level. It hosts many events that invite to leisure.
