Located on the heights of Sainte-Croix, facing the Trinitaires church, the Hôtel Saint-Livier is the oldest patrician building in the city. Its function is twofold since it serves both as a defensive castle and as a luxurious residence. We find, in its massive and medieval architecture, like an air of Siena or Florence! This is not surprising considering that in the 12th century, many Lombard bankers came to Metz, and their presence helped to influence civil architecture... The height of its tower dungeon impresses, as does its crenellated screen wall, which at the time was used as a walk-through path. It houses the headquarters of the Regional Fund for Contemporary Art.
