Association Ouvrage A5 du Bois du Four in the form of a gigantic monolith (6,000 made of concrete, a must-see!

Entirely reinforced during the Occupation, the A5 Bois du Four is a ruin forgotten in 1945. A gigantic monolith, unique in the conception of the Maginot Line, for 6,000m3 of concrete. Bought by the commune of Villers-la-Montagne in 1990 (7 km from Longwy), it has been entrusted to an association of volunteers who have been restoring and refitting it for over 30 years. At the end of a two-hour visit, immersed like its crew, you will discover the subtleties of infantry and fortress artillery, a fully restored 81 B-type mortar firing chamber, unique in northeastern France, and the daily life of the concrete soldiers who did not give up, while everything was falling apart around them. The Longovic history of the steel industry and the earthenware industry also have their place here. It is a museography of detail.
