Listed since 1992, Fort Schœnenbourg is the largest fort on the Maginot Line. Active during the Second World War

The Schoenenbourg fort is the most important artillery work of the Maginot Line that can be visited in Alsace: nearly 3 km of galleries, at an average depth of 22 meters below the surface of the ground, connecting 6 blocks scattered over several hectares and including a kitchen, an electrical production plant, an air filtration plant, a barracks, an infirmary, a command post, and a combat block with a turret equipped with cannons. The discovery continues outside the military building with a route marked out with didactic signs. Guided tour accessible to PRM.

Worth seeing if you're near this area and interested in fortresses. Place was not too filled with tourists, and it took us about 2 hours to fully see the place. Wear warm clothes, as it's about 12c inside.

Was eine beeindruckende Anlage.

#be nice, be happy for a better together :)

Great preservation of an amazing underground bunker. You can walk the tunnels yourself without a guide and read as much as you want to! We learned SO much!

Zweieinhalb Stunden sollte man einplanen um alles zu sehen. Interessante Anlage. Pulli mitnehmen, wird mit der Zeit etwas frisch ;

It was even better than I expected. They said 2.5 hours, I walked through every room/space, read 1/4 of the info, watched the videos & fast walked everywhere, it took me just over 2 hours. You should plan for 3+ hours, & read most of the information, it's very informative.
