Schoenenbourg Fort, the most important artillery work of the Maginot Line, located in Hunspach.

The Schoenenbourg fort is the most important artillery work of the Maginot Line that can be visited in Alsace: nearly 3 km of galleries, at an average depth of 22 meters below the surface of the ground, connecting 6 blocks scattered over several hectares and including a kitchen, an electrical production plant, an air filtration plant, a barracks, an infirmary, a command post, and a combat block with a turret equipped with cannons. The discovery continues outside the military building with a route marked out with didactic signs. Guided tour accessible to PRM.

On y accède par le Bloc 7 qui était alors voué à l'entrée des munitions [photo 1] . Après avoir réglé 10 euros par adulte et après avoir descendu 135 marches, on entre dans le vif du sujet, un peu macabre et lugubre, là où nos soldats étaient confinés pendant des semaines dans l'attente des blindés du IIIe Reich. Le parcours explicatif est bien fait , l'espace de vie impressionnant , mais on échappera pas aux mannequins des boutiques de fringues habillés en soldats. Attention, la caisse est ouverte de 9h30 à 16 heures .

Il faut compter au minimum 2 heures de visite pour effectuer le parcours souterrain d’environ 3 km.
