FINE ARTS MUSEUM - HYACINTHE RIGAUD
Museum in Perpignan offering temporary exhibitions on major works, among the most frequented cultural places.
Le Petit Futé never gets tired of the Musée Rigaud and with each new exhibition, it's a treat... The Catalan painter Hyacinthe Rigaud, who was none other than the court painter of King Louis XIV, has here a "royal" showcase to highlight his works. The City of Perpignan has therefore brought together the Hôtel de Mailly and the Hôtel de Lazerme to offer visitors a space of 4,300 m², on 3 levels, dedicated to art from the 13th to the 21st century. Major artists are exhibited there: Guerra, Maillol, Terrus, Lurcat, Daura, Ingres, Picasso... and Dufy, who lived in Perpignan for the last ten years of his life. Level 2, on 380 m², is reserved for temporary exhibitions which each year propose major works (Picasso and Perpignan, Rodin and Maillol...). In addition to the classic collections, this event brings together thousands of visitors. It should be noted that the Musée Rigaud is one of the most frequented and important cultural places in Occitania. But this would not have been possible without the Barbotin-Larrieu architectural firm, which designed this setting combining modernity and old with this magnificent hanging garden with Mediterranean essences, thought as a Zen break in the visit of the "New Rigaud Museum". Don't forget to highlight the special programmes and visits for groups or children. The Rigaud Museum has emphasized the educational character of its collections and more and more young people are visiting this place. Well done!
