Castle with vaulted rooms, chapel, ramparts with view on Collioure and the sea, organizes exhibitions and shows
Built by the Counts of Roussillon and the kings of Aragon in the 12th and 14th centuries, the castle was the court of the kings of Majorca during the brief episode of their reign. Thereafter, it was occupied by the Spanish until 1642, then fell into the hands of the French. Vauban then reinforces the citadel. Architecture lovers will appreciate the warhead vaulted rooms, the chapel, but also the impressive ramparts from which you can enjoy a superb view of the sea and the city. Exhibitions and shows animate the castle throughout the year.

Ayant l'habitude de visiter des châteaux et autres forts et monuments historiques à travers toute la France et à l'étranger, cela faisait longtemps que je voulais visiter ce lieu . Résultat, fortement déçu. Ce n'est ni plus ni moins qu'une coquille vide restaurée à coup de matériaux de notre époque. Aucune authenticité, pas de mobilier, des pièces totalement vides où les murs ont été saccagés de peinture ou enduit blanc. Pas un canon , pas une seule pièce historique bref une véritable honte pour le patrimoine. Seul et unique point positif et pas des moindres, le guide Patrick. Alors là nous avons eu à faire à un véritable passionné, un personnage haut en couleur redoutable d'humour et d'une culture et un savoir fantastique sur l'histoire du lieu, bien au delà de la fiche remise à l'entrée où une bonne partie a été homise . Dommage que ce Monsieur doit prendre sa retraite dans quelques mois ce sera une perte considérable pour cet endroit et son histoire. Un merci aussi aux dames de l'accueil très gentilles et souriante.
