THE ENGLISH TOWER AND THE ORIENTATION TABLE

The tower rises up from an imposing rock face, where traces of an ancient staircase are carved into the granite.
The Tour des Anglais is the last remaining evidence of a castle that once belonged to the barony of Randon, one of the eight baronies of Gévaudan between the 10th and 17th centuries. Its construction dates back to the Middle Ages, under the impetus of Philippe de Randon, who discovered his castle reduced to ashes. Determined to mark his return, he erected a new castle, majestically dominating the region. The tower is famous for having withstood the siege of Du Guesclin's troops in the summer of 1380.
