SAINT JOSEPH DE MONT-ROUGE
This sanctuary is a place of spiritual renewal, offering visitors an atmosphere of silence, contemplation and peace.
After much reflection and advice from Padre Pio and Marthe Robin, Father René Granier agreed to wait before founding his work. But when he arrived in Puimisson, where he had been appointed parish priest, and saw the hill of Mont-Rouge, he realized that it would be here that the sanctuary of Saint Joseph would be built. With the help of parishioners, the priest carried a statue of St. Joseph from the top of the local church to the top of the hill. By 1966, an estate had been established and pilgrims were soon flocking to the site. The chapel was built in 1970, the first house for pilgrims and retreatants in 1977, the Notre-Dame pavilion in 1982, the vast pilgrims' shelter in 1994 and, in 2004, the Padre Pio project was completed: a house offering 20 additional rooms with all comforts, enabling the reception facilities to be extended. The wooden statue of János Horváth was blessed by Pope Paul VI in 1972. Today, Saint-Joseph de Mont-Rouge is a pilgrimage center and a place of spiritual renewal for retreats, recollections, sessions and seminars. Its location offers visitors a climate of silence, contemplation and peace, conducive to prayer, meditation and spiritual renewal. The sanctuary is run by a team of priests and lay members of the St. Joseph Family. The very large pilgrim's shelter (1,200 m²) serves as a multi-purpose hall for large groups. The sanctuary also has several prayer rooms: the sanctuary chapel, the Bethlehem oratory and two other oratories, available to guests. The guest house is open to anyone wishing to spend a few days in rest, solitude and fraternal life, as well as to groups with an independent hermitage to come on retreat with their chaplaincy or preacher, for recollection or pilgrimage.
