BLACKBERRY BUSH
A mulberry tree of more than 400 years old in Pierrerue, an exceptional tree classified as "Remarkable tree of France".
This exceptional tree, a true star of the village, has been enthroned there for more than 400 years. No question of cutting off his branches unexpectedly! It has been classified since 2015 as a "Remarkable Tree of France". In 1602, in order to revive silk production in France, Henri IV issued a royal ordinance requiring each parish to have a mulberry tree nursery, since their leaves serve as food for the silkworm caterpillars. Because the tree is hollow on the inside, a steel band was placed a hundred years ago at the top of its trunk to prevent it from opening. The trunk measures 3.7 m in circumference, and 3.90 m at the level of the strapping. It has a foliage diameter of 9 m and a height of 6 to 7 m. An exhibition of explanatory panels created by the town hall retraces its origin, as well as the breeding of silkworms.
