The 9 locks of Fonséranes, real marvels of civil engineering unique in the world, are an exceptional site classified as World Heritage by UNESCO and Historic Monuments. A major work of the Canal du Midi created by Pierre-Paul Riquet, it includes eight ovoid basins and nine gates that allow the crossing of a 21.6 meter difference in level over a length of more than 300 meters. Today, only seven of these locks are still in service.
