CULTURA

Bookshop
4.5/5
2 reviews

For a large area of the book, video game, DVD and CD, Cultura is really doing well! This store, very widely stocked, is a real incentive to the general culture. Many vendors are more available (when you manage to locate them). You can't find the book or CD you were looking for? You can order them and you will be warned that they have arrived by email or by SMS. This great sign also has the immense merit of having installed its premises on the outskirts of the city. Free parking. One caveat, however: the days of attendance - many! - we must be truly motivated - and courageous - to trace its path in the human tide that seeks its happiness over all the rays. Preferably, get there in the morning, in the morning!

FNAC

A heart of the Dome of the Halles, Fnac steadfastly resists the traffic crisis in the mall. This place is, and it is magical, an ideal stroll, where several generations are peacefully arriving in contact with books, comic strips, dvds, CD… In short, culture. The youngest ones come to discover the latest mangas, the new comics and if they settle in the radius to read a little piece, nobody tells them anything. Those who do not find their happiness are ordering and, rather quickly, a message warns them that their selection has arrived. On disk, Fnac opened its bins to all musical genres, influences and even to local formations. It is regrettable, however, that the classical radius shortens regularly. One can only rejoice that Fnac exists in the city centre of Nîmes because, besides being a commercial place - and this is its very function - it has become one of the main reasons for the Dome which, without it, would have difficulty surviving. It is not a sociabilisation area (we talk relatively little about it), but it is a living place.

A Protestant bookshop since 1864, the store became a general bookshop in 1920, and has been striving to meet demand ever since, with over 10,000 references. Once through the door, books stack up on shelves to the ceiling, arranged by theme or genre. Don't worry, the people who welcome you know their business and their products, and will find you the title you're looking for. A serious and friendly address.

LE BOOKCROSSING WWW.BOOKCROSSING.COM

Bookshop

To practice this sport in Nîmes or (almost) all around the world, simply deposit a book in a public place, hoping it will be found, read and then released after having been "reported" on the Site. Created in 2001 by Ron Hornbaker, the site keeps track of the books of the book and thus offers successive discoverers and readers the opportunity to comment on it and to link knowledge through countries forums. Thus, the small community of nîmois nîmois leaves regularly forums and keyboards for meet-up, non-virtual meetings at the restaurant or in bars. The book as a means of meeting? Not bad! The bookcrosser may also "release" a book in a public place by hiding it; only the site's regulars will know the cache. There is also bookring, for the most careful: the persons interested in the work register to receive it by mail and form a chain so that the work, once passed in all hands, returns to sender. Excellent all this, but I wonder: bookcrossing, bookcrosser, bookring, book? We talk about French literature, tell me?

LES FLEURS DU MAL

Bookshop

One of the great addresses to advise the oeuvre. There is a certain romanticism to devote its space only to old books, to the depleted editions as this shop does. There is certainly a little Bohemian in the layout of a stock where ancient engravings (some of Goya from the famous War Disasters series) tightly contrasting precious manuscripts, beautiful historical works and large volumes of starched. But more than romanticism, bohemian and inspiration, it is one of the same passion for writing that we want to speak here, and invite to share. We like the old book book that is old fashioned, which allows you to find beautiful editions at low prices.

DIDEROT

Bookshop

Let's say, the Diderot bookstore assumes its reputation as an engaged left bookstore. Indeed, this boutique has been campaigning for more than thirty years for its vision of a better, more humane world bearing the humanist spirit. She embodies the name that she chose in homage to the great encyclopédiste and philosopher of the Enlightenment and tries, like him, to mark his difference by choosing the works she proposes. A word like in ten, don't look for Nicolas Sarkozy's bibiographie, you leave void. Nor will you find a commercial best-sellers - not all of them, far from it - but many quality, freely chosen books for large and small.

TEISSIER

Bookshop

A family bookstore, where the love of books, words and ideas passes from generation to generation. Vincent Tessier, supported by his brother Pierre, took over the torch and maintained the identity of this place where the book is not considered to be a consumer commodity but as a beautiful, strong object whose reach has no price. Vincent, when he advises, patient, listens, knows what he speaks. He knows perfectly well the books and authors on sale in his bookstore. It has chosen them and it is not for nothing, the spirit far away from purely commercial promotions. And yet, like everybody else, he has to run his little universe. He can live only reading and fresh water… But, above all, it insists that the Teissier bookshop remains a living place that brings knowledge and happiness. It organizes, regularly, literary presentations in the presence of the authors, which are rather nice, sometimes funny, which transcend the road of this pedestrian street, which has long ceased to surprise itself.

LIBRAIRIE MODA

Bookshop

This bookstore, at the southern color window, is a long way from. This well-known place of the Nîmois, where you know the book and where we love it still, will bow in four to give you the novel that is trying you, the biography you heard about. But the strength of this enseigne lies above all in its basement. Here, not far from a small room for young and very young, the school book, whatever it is, is king (with a space entirely devoted to law, accounting and the economy). Moda is the specialized bookstore in these fields.
