The artist Thierry Auneau has been investing the Medieval town for some years now in a gallery-workshop near the Comtal castle for the great pleasure of the visitors who can see him work live the red marble of Caunes Minervois and freely visit his works' exhibitions. He carefully sculpts Occitan marble with striking contrast in these smooth forms, bringing them to life and exalting the hardness and nobleness of this material. While favouring unusual marbles like the one of Caunes or the ones from Aude's Montagne Noire, he strongly establishes his style in this material which no longer holds any secret for him. Do not hesitate to go and meet him: this passionate man will tell you everything on marble, its formation, its extraction and its sculpture. If you are walking in the lower town, keep your eyes open as you will certainly see one of his works: the huge statue of General Bigeard in front of Laperine fire station or the monumental sculptures which adorn the Maison des Collectivités in Carcassonne.
