The building is dwarfed by the mass of buildings in the neighbourhood, but its Baroque facade is well known to local residents. King Louis XIII's wish for a victory over the Protestants was granted, so he decided to build this basilica. It took almost one hundred years to build, and boasts a number of remarkable features: in addition to its southern facade and two-order portal, the interior is richly decorated, notably with monumental canvases by Carl Van Loo.
