January 12th was the Berber New Year, also called Yennayer. This first day of the year 2965, according to the Berber calendar, was celebrated at the City Hall of Paris which organized a special evening, in partnership with Berber TV (the generalist television channel in Berber and French languages), in the salons of the City Hall where many Berber artists from all over the world took the stage. Established since 2005, on the initiative of Bertrand Delanoë, this cultural event has become a tradition at the Paris City Hall.

This year, a minute of silence was observed by officials and all guests, in memory of the victims of last week's attacks at Charlie Hebdo, Montrouge and Porte de Vincennes. It is a tribute that calls here to defend and work for national unity and the defence of republican values.
