For its reopening to the public, the Musée du Quai Branly is presenting the exhibition Ex Africa: African Presences in Contemporary Art, curated by art critic and historian Philippe Dagen. The aim is to show that while these art forms were reduced to the role of plastic models for the Western avant-gardes of the first half of the 20th century during the Primitivism exhibition at MoMA in New York in 1984, these arts are now more present than ever in the current scene. 34 contemporary artists propose their works, paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, photographs, all of which allow a better understanding of the link between the contemporary scene and ancient African arts.
