If Dom Pérignon spent most of his life in Hautvilliers where he still rests today, it was in Sainte-Ménéhould that he was born and baptized in 1639. In 1958, the Ménehildians wanted to pay tribute to the famous Benedictine monk who invented champagne by having a statue sculpted in his effigy. This 1.75 m high work by Nicolas Alba now stands in the middle of Pasteur Square.
