Chapel with frescoes inspired by biblical scenes and Japanese culture
Touched by the beauty of the Saint-Remi basilica, Foujita had a mystical illumination. He converted to Catholicism and after his baptism in 1959 built a neo-Romanesque chapel. With the participation of his godfather René Lalou, director of the House of Mumm, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix chapel was built in 1965. After having designed the plans and drawn the stained glass windows, the Japanese artist, then 80 years old, started to work on the interior decoration. His frescoes, inspired by biblical scenes and Japanese culture, cover nearly 200m2.
