A monument in Dormans, built by a committee set up by Madame de la Rochefoucauld, dedicated to the dead of the Great War.
This national monument dedicated to the dead of the Great War was built in 1921 according to the wishes of Marshal Foch. The chapel overlooks the valley of the Marne, the scene of the battles, and invites to meditation. The building pays tribute to the fallen soldiers through a series of magnificent stained glass windows and sculptures and also gives access to a museum. The cloister where the names of the army corps of the 1st and2nd battle of the Marne are engraved will lead you to the ossuary which contains 130 coffins containing the bones of about 1 500 unknown French soldiers.

Mais il y a des pauvres chevaux laissé à l’abandon dans le parc. C’est épouvantable.

-« C’etait horrible il y avait un cheval tout maigre la peau sur les os avec des bêtes sur les poiles de son cou et dans ses yeux j’ai vu et compris qu’il avait besoin d’aide et qu’il était abattu de tristesse,quand je l’ai vu j’ai fondu en larmes impuissante et je pleur encore en écrivant. Je n’avait jamais vu un cheval aussi mal en point de toute ma vie…et ce cheval était avec un autre et ils n’avaient même pas de quoi boire ou manger. »
