TROGLODYTIC VILLAGE ON THE HILLSIDE OF SAINT-ANDRÉ
Site of the Saint-André hillside linked to the legend of the hole of the Loir snake, and sheltering several troglodytic dwellings.
The village was built in the old quarries from which the stones used to erect many of the region's religious buildings were extracted. Troglodytic dwellings, wine cellars and mushroom beds have also made their home here. A local legend tells of the trou du serpent du Loir, a demonic animal that terrorized the inhabitants when it emerged from its hillside lair. The hole is still there, so beware...
