PARK AND REMAINS OF THE CHÂTEAU DE VENDÔME
Lovely English-style park surrounding the ruins of an fortress, testimony to the grandeur of the Counts of Vendôme.
The 11th-century fortress was attacked by the Huguenots in 1562, but like many others, it was the French Revolution that caused the most damage. Part of the medieval enclosure is still visible, but it's the Poitiers tower that gives the best idea of the importance of this stronghold. A six-hectare English-style park was created in the 19th century. One of the park's most famous features is, of course, the Cedar of Lebanon, planted in 1807.
