Château de Meslay bears witness to the splendor of the nobility during the reign of King Louis XV.
Near Vendôme, Jean François de la Porte decided to build a Louis XV-style château d'agrément on the site of an ancient medieval fortress. His immense fortune, amassed as a farmer-general, even enabled him to relocate the entire village, including a brand-new church built entirely at his own expense, as the old village was built on unhealthy marshland. He also set up a prosperous cotton mill. After losing it during the French Revolution, the family reclaimed the château in 1818 and has kept it to this day

Sehr lesenswert auch die Texttafeln zu den Kutschen im Außenbereich, die ziemlich gut auf den Punkt bringen, wie es im Zeitalter der Kutschen war und was das Besondere des jeweiligen Modells ist (das gelingt manch großen Kutschensammlungen nicht).
Man sollte sich die Zeit nehmen, sich auf das, was zu sehen ist, einzulassen, dann ist es ein sehr lohnenswerter Besuch! Wer schnell durchlaufen will, könnte enttäuscht werden.
