THE MANOR HOUSE OF THE ABBEY OF SEUILLY
Spiritual stay in Seuilly with a lively cultural center and a comfortable and cozy gîte d'étape
Seuilly Abbey was originally a simple priory founded in 1095. In 1416, part of the church and convent were destroyed by fire, then rebuilt between 1466 and 1491. The memory of François Rabelais is attached to these walls. It was here that he made his first studies and set one of the episodes of the Picrocholine War (the resistance of Brother Jean des Entommeures in the abbey enclosure). A 15th-century building remains from the abbey, known as the "Maison de l'aumônerie" or "Maison de l'Économe". Today, it's a lively cultural center and the regional headquarters of the CPIE (Centre permanent d'initiative pour l'environnement). Ask them about the activities they offer. Enjoy the cosy comfort of the gîte d'étape.
