SAINT-CHARTIER CASTLE
Castle of the XIIth century which was used as residence to the princes of Low Berry, common and walls with the vestiges of a body of gallery.
Restored in the late 19th century, this 12th-century fortress once belonged to the princes of Déols and the lords of Châteauroux. Part of the building was rebuilt in the 15th century, but in 1810, the Count of Chabrillan had the roofs removed to prevent prisoners suffering from typhus from taking refuge here. Old parts of the building have been preserved: the surrounding walls, with the interesting remains of a gallery, and the outbuildings overlooking the square.
