SAN MARTIN CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
5/5
1 review

The Saint Martin Church in Prissac has enjoyed a complete renovation. It's a modest building, two neves. The bell tower dates from the twelfth century, but most of the church was rebuilt in the fifteenth century. It has beautiful wall paintings from the end of the Middle Ages. There is the representation of Saint Catherine, a martyr of Saint Andrew and one of Saint Sebastian. In the chapel, the «Say of the Three Dead and Three Vifs» is staged, near the representation of the four evangelists. Parts are missing, but a leaflet is available in the church and the site provides very complete explanations. In statute, one notes a saint Martin in wood and a saint Radegonde stone.

The second pole - Space Gutenberg - has five centuries of technical evolution in the printing field. A rural factor, the third pole recounts 150 years of postal history in Berry. On the first floor, the museum has a temporary exhibition room, which brought to the fore the work of Patrick van Ingen, a chainsaw sculptor, resident in the town of Prissac in 2014.

THE CASTLE OF THE GUARD-GIRON

Castles to visit

3 kilometers north of Prissac, the Château-Giron Castle is a beautiful manor house surrounded by a vast meadow. He belonged to Alain Giron, a companion of Joan of Arc. With two squares and two round towers, this harmonious xve century castle is reflected in a pond. It's a private stay that doesn't visit. In the park visible from the road, note a more recent chapel. In the church of the village, the castle is reproduced in the background on the stained glass of Saint-Louis.
