The Maison du Fromage de Pouligny Saint-Pierre is designed to raise awareness of this local product, which has been cultivated since 1972. Located near the town center, the store promotes farmhouse cheeses, of course, but also products from the EURIAL dairy and other local products: honey, apple juice, processed freshwater fish products from the FISH BRENNE company, artisan jams, REUILLY wines and more.

The store was created by the municipality of POULIGNY SAINT PIERRE and is run by an association employing 3 saleswomen.

The store is open every day except Monday, from 9am to 12:30pm and from 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and on Sunday mornings from 9am to 12:30pm.

The Maison du fromage is just the first step in an ambitious project.

history of Pouligny Saint-Pierre

pouligny St Pierre is the 1st appellation of origin for goat's cheese, and the smallest appellation area with just 22 communes located in the Brenne Natural Park, more precisely in the valleys of the Creuse and Anglin rivers.
40 years ago, we marketed 40 tons of Pouligny St Pierre, today we are at 300 tons which represents 1.2 million cheeses.

pouligny St Pierre is a cheese made exclusively from whole, raw goat's milk. It is shaped like a slender pyramid with regular edges, a square base, a height of 12.5cm and a small 2.5cm square at the top. It is made from lactic curds by slow coagulation and spontaneous draining. It has a soft, slightly salty texture, and some people like it very dry!

On the outside, it shows surface mold. It has a vermiculated, ivory-white rind that can be slightly bluish.

The Pouligny St Pierre pyramid has a wide range of flavors, making it suitable for a wide audience. Slightly refined, its light taste makes it ideal in salads, cut into small cubes, with walnut oil (from Vigean) or on hot toast cut into thin slices.
Slightly spiked with blue, it will suit more demanding palates in search of a taste of hazelnut and terroir. Finally, blue-ripened, it will be sought after by lovers of bold, assertive tastes.
To accompany it, tradition is strict: only a good, dry, fruity white wine will fully enhance the pronounced flavor of Pouligny St Pierre. We recommend a white Quincy or Sancerre.
