A reference in winter sports

From Trentino-Alto Adige to the Aosta Valley, via Piedmont, Veneto and Lombardy, winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy themselves in the Italian Alps and Dolomites. Although the vast majority prefer downhill skiing, the hundreds of Italian resorts offer all the winter pleasures to holidaymakers: freeride, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing, ice skating, etc.

The ultimate proof of the quality of these resorts is that the 2026 Winter Olympics will be held between Milan (Livigno and Bormio resorts) and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The best season is from December to March for winter sports. With a few more falls in March, the snow disappears from April onwards.

In summer, it's time to go hiking!

The mountains are also the goal of hikers and mountaineers, who come from all over the world during the summer. A climb in the high mountains, stopping off at one of the many mountain huts or bivouacs, is the perfect opportunity to get to know the Italian Alps, whose natural riches are accompanied by precious historical and heritage testimonies.

For hikers, the Dolomites offer a universe of spires and needles crowning mountains that stand the test of time with dignity and majesty. Their well-groomed valleys, as if they had been pulled up by their hair, dusted and flowered, resemble the perfect mountain pasture images in the cartoon Heidi.

The mountains are immediately recognisable due to their unique relief and the colourful, bare high walls, which are a delight for climbers and turn pink at sunset. Since 2009, the protected areas of the Dolomites in the provinces of Belluno, Bolzano, Trento, Pordenone and Udine have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The golden eagle, the king of the valleys, the herds of goats that you will meet along the steep paths, but also deer, chamois and roe deer, all will be there. And the observation of young marmots will undoubtedly remain one of your most beautiful memories.

Alone, with an Alpine guide or an eco-guide, or in a small group with a tour operator: the possibilities for hiking in the Dolomites are extremely numerous and varied. With majestic landscapes on the agenda!

The best time to go hiking in the mountains in summer is July and August.

Mountain biking, swimming or golf, there is plenty to do!

This exceptional nature is also an opportunity to practice many other sports, such as mountain biking, water sports and via ferrata excursions. And there are numerous spas where you can recharge your batteries all year round.

Mountain biking and electric mountain bikes. Thrill-seekers will have a field day! Vertiginous climbs and descents, routes on the ridges and remarkable viewpoints, the mountain bike sessions promise to be unforgettable!

Swimming and water sports. Lovers of water sports can satisfy their passion with rafting and, on the lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Como or Lake Garda, a real inland sea), kayaking, windsurfing or sailing. The lake region is exceptionally mild from June to the end of September. An ideal time for swimming!

Golf. For those who love golf, there are more than a hundred courses scattered throughout the region, from Sestriere to the Dolomites. In fact, Sestriere is home to the highest 18-hole golf course in Europe.
