The Italian railway company Trenitalia (Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane) serves the main cities of the country and its provinces. Efficient and reliable service, with trains that are fairly punctual, and inexpensive fares. You can find all the timetables and prices on the company's website (which offers a very welcome French version). In the stations, there are almost no staff at the ticket counters and the ticket is bought at the automatic machines. Don't forget to stamp it before getting on the train!
