AYMAVILLES CASTLE

A remarkable manor in Aymavilles, between medieval and baroque architecture.
In a dominant position in relation to the village, the Aymavilles manor house surprises with its very unusual shapes: its elegant silhouette is characterised by four crenellated circular towers dating from the 14th century joined by as many facades created and decorated in the 18th century. The primitive construction, of which nothing remains today, dates back to the 12th century. In 1354, it was made a possession of Aymon de Challant by the Counts of Savoy, once again sealing the bond of fidelity between the two families. Since then, it has been the property of different generations of the Challants, including Joseph-Félix who transformed it in 1713 into the elegant seigneurial residence as it stands today. Since 1970, the castle has belonged to the Autonomous Region. Even if the interior of the castle cannot be visited, its exterior architecture, a unique blend of medieval and baroque, is worth a visit. The reopening to the public is estimated to take place between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.
