Discover La Rioja
Famous for its vintages, La Rioja is synonymous with beautiful vineyard escapes and epicurean holidays. Situated to the west of the Ebro valley, it takes its name from the Río Oja that flows through it. Its 5,045 km² are divided into two parts. La Rioja Alta, mountainous and humid, stretches from the Sierra de la Demanda to the Ebro. It is crossed by the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, dotted with monasteries and churches, and produces the finest wines. Rioja Baja is nestled between Aragon, Soria and Navarre. Here, visitors can discover the famous dinosaur footprints, mysterious dolmens and Roman remains. In addition to its capital Logroño, famous for its pintxo bars on Calle Laurel, don't miss Santo Domingo de la Calzada and its cathedral, as well as San Millán de la Cogolla and its monasteries of Suso and Yuso, cradle of the Castilian language.
