Discover la Navarre
From the ancient kingdom of Navarre founded by the Vascons in the 9th century, the present-day province corresponds to Upper Navarre - Lower Navarre having been attached to the crown of France in the 16th century, hence the title of "King of France and Navarre" inaugurated under the reign of Henri IV. Today's Navarre is made up of three main geographical areas: the north, dotted with Pyrenean valleys; the Pamplona basin, where the region's economic activity is concentrated; and the Ribera, which stretches from the fertile plains of the Ebro to the Bardenas desert. What's not to miss here? Take part in the San Fermín festivities in Pamplona, discover the monasteries along the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, walk through the Bardenas Reales Natural Park, visit the Olite palace and the villages of Sangüesa and Puente la Reina. Gastronomy too: try the famous pimientos del piquillo and the vegetables of Tudela!
