Le Cancan or New Cancan, depending on the name, is THE reference for gay clubbing in Marseille. Founded in 1991 by Michel Piacenza, it's just a stone's throw from the Canebière, and attracts a gay and gay-friendly clientele every Saturday in a supercharged atmosphere. Le Moulin is a former neighbourhood cinema and theatre, formerly known as the "Moulin bleu", not far from the enormous Dome. He has built up a reputation of esteem in the music world over the course of his previous programming, which has given the turners confidence. If you are told Noir Désir in Marseille in 1989, look no further, it was at the Moulin. Nick Cave, My Bloody Valentine, Tricky, Placebo, Oasis, Femi Kuti as well. On the Quai Rive-Neuve proudly stands the Théâtre de La Criée, the national theater housed in Marseille's former fish market. A former meeting place for fishermen and fishmongers, it is now a mythical cultural meeting place under the sensitive, modern direction of Macha Makeïeff since 2011.
