One of the most important festivals in Mumbai is the one celebrating the birthday of the popular elephant-headed god.

The birthday of Ganesh, the popular elephant-headed god, is celebrated in all temples dedicated to this god for 10 days. Mumbai, especially Chowpatty Girgaon and Juhu Beach, is the place where the celebration is at its peak. Thousands of clay effigies painted in bright colors parade through the streets. The festival ends with a long procession and the immersion of Ganesh statues in water. Be careful, the atmosphere is electric and crowd movements, or outbursts, can occur.
