MAHA SHIVARATRI

Maha Shivaratri, which means "The Great Night of Shiva," is a festival that symbolizes the triumph of good over darkness and ignorance. Devotees gather at pilgrimage sites and Shivaite temples to commemorate Shiva's cosmic dance and the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. Throughout the country, devotees stay up all night to pay homage to Shiva through fasting, prayers, religious songs and offerings. This religious festival is celebrated with particular fervor in the north of the country.
