FÊTE DE L’EAU (VARTAVAR)

The date is movable, but the custom is to celebrate this festival on a Sunday in July or August. A resolutely summery festival! Reminiscent of pagan festivals dedicated to the gods of water, Vartavar is indeed the occasion to sprinkle water on one's fellow man. Passers-by and cars are copiously watered, with a bucket of water or a water pistol, on the occasion of this seasonal festival, which is all the more willingly sacrificed as the heat can be overpowering.
