Practical information : Take a break Bahrain
Timetable
During the day, the bars are often empty. You have to wait until nightfall for the atmosphere to liven up, especially at weekends. Most bars close late, around 2am.
Budget & Tips
As with restaurants, VAT is generally included in the menu prices. Most bars offer happy hours, usually between 5pm and 8pm.
Age restrictions
In Bahrain, the legal drinking age is 18. It is forbidden to drink alcohol in public places. Note that Bahraini Muslims are officially forbidden to buy alcohol, although this law is not always respected.
What's very local
Bahrain being a Muslim country, there are no real customs around alcohol. For expatriates, however, the most important occasion is the weekend brunch.
Kids
Although children are welcome everywhere in Bahrain, it's not very common to see them in bars, especially as the atmosphere in most of them is not very family-oriented...
Smokers
Smoking is forbidden in enclosed public places, and this law also applies to bars, even if some offer a smoking room.
Tourist traps
Bahrain being a festive tourist destination, many bars and hotels, especially in the Juffair district, are frequented by prostitutes.
