Read moreGallery D40 has moved to a new location not far from the Royal Palace. D40 is a sharp gallery with pastels, prints and numbered prints from current Norwegian artists. Well framed and well displayed works for a pleasant visit. We liked the multiplicity of styles side by side, the lighting, the parquet floor and the natural light from the ceiling, really nice to appreciate the works. If you're ever in the Slottsparken, make sure you stop by, it's not far away.
EAST OF THE SUN GALLERY
Read moreGerman-born Eva Schmutterer moved here a few years ago. Inspired by the beauty of the landscape and, above all, its colors, she began to create works representing the North Cape that she loves so much. As you browse the gallery, you'll notice that her favorite themes are sometimes a church, sometimes the harbor, sometimes the famous midnight sun that so many tourists come here to admire. These works are made up of large flat areas of color and minute gradations. How does she do it? Go and ask her for her secret!

GRIMDALSTUNET
Read moreLocated 10 km from Dalen, this is the traditional farm where the sculptor Anne Grimdalen (represented in the National Gallery in Oslo) was born. There are indoor and outdoor exhibitions of her work, including animal sculptures all over the huge garden, which children will be happy to explore and touch. The wooden houses are very old and very pretty, all carved. There is a bright cafe where you can have lunch or dinner for very little money and without having to travel for miles!
HAUGESUND ART GALLERY
Read moreA local art gallery, exhibiting a collection of paintings, graphics and sculptures, from the end of the last century to the present day. Through grants, new works are added each year. International, national and local artists also exhibit here. The museum has 1,000m2 of exhibition space and also offers activities for children. The museum also has a small shop and a café, with wifi connection. It is possible to take a guided tour, by reservation only.

Until 2009, it exhibited in a beautiful Empire building, but it has now moved to the premises of an art cinema centre in the heart of the town. Exhibitions of painters and artists from various backgrounds are on display, such as Yngve Henriksen from the Lofoten Islands, Anna Kristin Ferking and the superb bird photos of Einar Sira. You will see mostly local, regional and national. A nice place to go if you have the time.

BODØGAARD GALLERY
Read moreCreated by the artist Oscar Bodøgaard and his son Harald Bodøgaard in 1985. Officially opened to the public in 1989, it welcomed no less than 1,200 people on its opening day! This gallery, located at 2,5 km from the city center, is one of the most important in the north of Norway. It houses millions of art and craft objects, some of which belonged to the Russian Tsars. It also hosts events such as concerts that usually accompany the opening of temporary exhibitions. A nice place that moves!

Read moreThis painting gallery adjoins the cathedral. On the steps, the Skrubbefar, a bronze by Dyre Vaa, stands guard. Immediately at the entrance is Karl Uchermann's huge painting (1892) of a moose being devoured by wolves. Further on, we find Peter Balke with his bistre seascapes of the Great North under the storm. Tidemand and Gude, also present, were the great painters of the Norwegian romantic period. The museum café is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm.
STIKLESTAD NASJONALE KULTURSENTER
Read moreThe Stiklestad Cultural Centre, opened in 1992, is designed as a walk through the history of King Olav. Born a pagan and baptized in Rouen, Olav Haraldsson, later called Olav the Saint, was the one who imposed Christianity in Norway by the force of his sword. Impressive re-enactments in an open-air theatre allow tourists to immerse themselves in this period and in particular in the great battle that took place on these now peaceful fields.

This private contemporary art gallery was founded by the discerning and passionate collector couple Venke and Rolf Hoff in 2013. Since then, in this exceptional setting, the Kaviar Factory has hosted a temporary exhibition, renewed each year, of avant-garde artists of national and international renown.

Read moreThis immense site is dedicated to contemporary art. A must-see is The Twist, an impressive bridge-gallery towering above the river, in perfect osmosis with its surroundings. Its remarkable form is no less than an architectural feat, designed by the Danish firm BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, and hosts temporary exhibitions. The sculpture park features some 50 works of art scattered throughout the natural environment, accessible even in the off-season. There are also exhibitions on the theme of industry.
MARINE MUSEUM (SJØFARTSMUSEUM)
Read moreThe Musée de la Marine is housed in a former prison built in 1725. In use until 1835, it was once known as the slave prison. The legendary Gjest Baardson, the Norwegian Robin Hood, was put in irons here. The museum houses a small collection of sailing ships, some beautiful figureheads and navigational instruments. The museum shop offers beautiful illustrated books, games and small items.
NORDENFJELDSKE KUNSTINDUSTRIMUSEUM
Read moreThe Musée des Arts et Métiers, in addition to its craft and furniture collections, boasts tapestries based on cartoons by Gerhard Munthe. These motifs tell the story of the Viking epic and perfectly illustrate the Norwegian Olympus. Three other sites are associated with the museum, taking over from the main building: the jewel of Trondheim royal residence, Austrått manor house, one of the country's oldest, and the Hannah Ryggen Centre. KUNSTSILO
Read moreThe Kunstsilo museum aims to be the catalyst for modern Nordic art. A must-see venue, it houses exhibitions from the former Sørlandet Art Museum alongside the Tangen collection, the heart of the new museum, comprising 5,000 works by 300 artists. The Sørlandet Art Museum presented exhibitions of works by Norwegian artists from 1800 to the present day. Its usually remarkable temporary exhibitions demonstrated a certain open-mindedness when it came to art. Like the old museum, the new one features play areas for children.
