Heading to the far north of the Atlantic to discover Iceland, a volcanic land full of mysteries with spectacular and supernatural landscapes: lava soils, glaciers, northern lights and incredible waterfalls such as the 32-metre high Gulfoss waterfall, whose waters freeze in winter and give it a magical appearance. Iceland is also a land of geysers (see video), as in the Golden Circle where we observe a particular form of hot springs that gush intermittently by projecting water at very high temperatures into a cloud of steam

Admire the volcano which according to Jules Verne gives access to the centre of the Earth

It is the Snæfellsjökull, a glacier-volcano that rises to 1,448 m. Lava fields are also very surprising landscapes: lava has formed small rocky reliefs covered with moss as far as the eye can see. Another volcanic landscape not to be missed is the black beaches of Vík, which have been used as a film location on several occasions for the Game of Thrones series. The ebony colour of the sand contrasts with the clarity of the water. According to legend, we would meet trolls there. The three rocks would be trolls turned to stone, as they would have tried to ground ships on the shore.

Legends well established in the Icelandic imagination

The most widespread belief is that there are hidden peoples and especially elves. Elves have often been attributed with problems encountered during road construction. A medium is then consulted before resuming the work.It also happens that small wooden houses built to accommodate elves can be found in the middle of nature or even in cities. You may even see very small churches built to convert elves to Christianity.Iceland also has a witchcraft museum in the village of Hólmavík. Many objects of sacrifice or other magical objects are on display.

And to see the puffins

The cliffs of Látrabjarg have the largest colony of puffins in the world: there are about 2 million of them nesting there every summer. They have now almost become a national symbol with their black and white plumage and colourful beak. They can be observed in summer and can be easily approached. The cliffs are impressive: they reach a height of more than 400 m. Before flying again, a last stop at Blue Lagoon where we will enjoy the benefits of the wave and the silica mud baths on our skin. It is an unforgettable experience: the water is 39°C and has an exceptional turquoise colour

A very nice experience to discover with Stéphan SZEREMETA and Frédéric BASTIEN in podcast on Bel RTL.
