FIESTA NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LOS ANGELES

It is the feast of the "Black Virgin", patron saint of the country also called Our Lady of the Angels (Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, la Negrita). A pilgrimage starts on foot from San José to reach Cartago during the night of August^1st to 2nd. The faithful come from all over Central America to take part in the pilgrimage and in the mass given on the 2nd in front of the Basilica of Cartago and in the procession to the Church of Carmel. It is a holiday.
