The feast of St. Isidore, farmer of the century, is the National Day of Agriculture, celebrated every May 15.
San Isidro (1070-1130) is the patron saint of agriculture. A Spanish farmer, he worked hard all his life, combining a deep love of God with a deep love of the land. The Ticos celebrate every May 15 the respect for the soil that San Isidro cultivated and the intimate relationship that the people have with the land. The festivities include different activities, such as the parade of the children of the catechism, the crowning of the queen of the patronal feasts, the blessing of the animals, the parade of the agricultural machinery and the blessing of the seeds.
