Ethiopia follows the Julian calendar and celebrates its New Year on September 11. The "Enkutatash" festival marks the end of the rainy season and the commemoration of St. John the Baptist. Traditional music and dance performances are organized throughout the country. Young girls play a small percussion instrument and move from house to house. At the end of the rainy season, they sing "Abebayehugn", which means "I have seen the flowers".
